Alexa at M&S

Alexa at M&S

What a pairing, the fashionista that is Alexa Chung and good old trusted M&S.  I had to take a peek, even though I am trying to be good and save money for the house move.  We need to pay the removals people, buy some very boring white goods and other essential items for the new house when all I want to do is buy beautiful things for my wardrobe!  So as the Alexa collection has been plastered all over Instagram today, I set about torturing myself as to what I could not buy, and here's my pick of the bunch.

Starting with my absolute fav, I love a trench and I love an olive trench (I already have two, in my defence they are very different colours and styles) so I am obviously besotted with this one.  My only reservation is whether it is going to be too long for a munchkin like me.

Next up the classic black trouser with a cropped twist.  I'm not sure about the styling of these, not keen on the top and definitely do not like the strappy sandals, I would suggest some courts or pointed ghillies would be a better pairing.

It seems it is all about the frills at the moment, and they have come up trumps with this version, which is also available in a blush pink.  Again, I am not keen on the styling and think this would work better with trousers, but I do love the shirt.

This also comes as a dress...

Finally, this piece is described as a shirt and styled as a dress, how versatile! It's a bit of a bargain too, in fact all of the pieces are quite reasonably priced I thought, good old M&S.

So what do you think ladies?  I think it's a hit.  Good work M&S and Alexa x

Spot the Difference

Spot the Difference

Clare Vivier clutch bags are just beautiful, and there are so many different options to chose from. The leopard print one is on my wish list and it will make it into my wardrobe one day, but for now I continue to dream. For those of you, who are not fans of leopard, or who want something a little more neutral I found this delight on the Net-a-Porter website. I love this, it still gives me a little animal print, but is a little more toned down being black and white.

I happened to stumble across this cheaper option whilst perusing the Mango mid season sale section of the website, so it's even more of a bargain with 30% off. Ok, so it's not quite identical, but for the price I think it's a pretty good option and worth a shot. At £25 it is perfectly achievable, and offers an affordable update to an outfit or your wardrobe.

Kami-Khaki

Kami-Khaki

I had forgotten all about my Khaki Cargo trousers until The Fashion Lift wrote an excellent blog post recently and reignited my love of them, which got me thinking and doing a little internet browsing (always dangerous), where I came across these beauties.

I love these more relaxed cargo pants from H&M, I particularly like the slightly distressed detail (and of course the price). I think these would look great dressed up with heels, a bit of breton and a biker jacket.

H&M also have these Khaki biker trousers.  I previously had the maternity version of these and absolutely loved them.  These are also on a half price special for the Easter weekend, so it would be rude not to buy them really.

For those of you looking for a more relaxed jogger, these from H&M are great, good fit, cuffed bottom and a zip detail.  I can definitely see myself lounging around in these, in fact these are probably too nice to be lounging in and whilst a little too casual for my week day work wardrobe, would be a good addition to the weekend mama wardrobe, either worn casually with trainers or dressed up with heels for a relaxed dinner or drink.

I am seeing peg leg trousers everywhere at the moment and I really like these kahki ones from Zara, which are an absolute bargain at under £30.  These would be great for both my working wardrobe and mama wardrobe, so so versatile and I love how Zara have styled them with stripes.  Whilst I have an abundance of stripes in my wardrobe, I do not have vertical stripes, so I think I need to search the Zara website for this too.

After starting my search looking for khaki cargos, I ended up finding all sorts of kahki delights...

First up a hoody.  Now I am not really a hoody person, but I've seen them styled on Instagram and various blogs recently and could be quite tempted to try it for £15, what's there to lose?

Next up a boilersuit.  I love my jumpsuits and am yet to try a boilersuit, but I am very tempted by this one from Topshop.  Paired with heels for a night out, I think I could rock this, we'll see!
Topshop Boilersuit £55

Now onto tops, there were actually quite a few of these online and I found it hard to narrow them down.  I would not suggest wearing these with khaki trousers in any way shape or form, but these would look great with blue, black or grey denim.  For a more casual look I would suggest this one from H&M.

This Zara shirt is a little more dressy than the H&M one but still has that laid back relaxed look to it.  I think I could get away with this for work (although perhaps not with blue denim), and it would be a well worn addition to my weekend wardrobe.
Zara Military Shirt £29.99

I of course have to have a little bit of animal print in here, and have been eyeing up this leopard print shirt from Topshop.

Now seeing as I have done most items of clothing I thought i may as well complete the whole wardrobe, again not to be worn all at once, but a little khaki here and there is definitely a good thing.  I really love this trenchcoat from Zara.  It is a gorgeous colour, has a beautiful pleated detail at the back and is an absolute bargain at £59.99.  If I didn't already have two green trenchcoats, and could sneak this in without my husband noticing then I would be placing an order.

If Khaki is not really your thing, or you're not sure about the colour suiting you, how about a splash of khaki in your accessories?  It's a good way to test it out.  I think these shoes would be great (once it stops raining and the sun comes out).

Spot the Difference

Spot the Difference

Just a quick credit v's debit for you today as I am trying to pack bags for a long weekend away.  Don't get excited, we're not going any where glamourous, just oop north to visit the husband's family and friends. Silver flats today, I did warn you I was a magpie and I do like a bit of sparkle and metallic in my wardrobe, and these are no exception.  If you too are a magpie, please check out my other post on metallic footwear here.

Starting with these beautiful Chloe ballerinas.  A little punchy at nearly £300, but I think you would get loads of wear out of these (once it warms up a little!), and so price per wear they would practically be free!

Here is a very similar offering from Boden, but for less than a quarter of the price.  These are even more bargainous as they are currently on sale was £69.50 now £41.70

Here Comes the Sun

Here Comes the Sun (she says hoping)

H&M are on fire at the moment. Have you seen their City Collection, it's awesome. I've already bought two pieces from the collection, which I wrote about last week here, but I may have also placed another order.  We've just booked a holiday and there are so many lovely things at super cheap prices that I just couldn't resist. I think you could pretty much buy your whole holiday wardrobe from this one site and not spend that much in the process.

Starting off with Denim shorts, as every holiday wardrobe needs to include these. I am loving these slightly distressed pair for less than £20.

I am still undecided about dungarees, I really love them on other people, but fear that I may look like a children's TV presenter from the 70's. However these ones (as worn by one of my Instagram crushes chloelovestoshop) are a little bit different, I am very tempted.

White jeans are always part of a classic holiday wardrobe. They always look great with a little bit of Breton (and we know how much I love a bit of Breton). I am still a fan if the skinny jean and I really like these ripped ones, which are really good value for only £20. I have always been a fan of Gap jeans, but recently tried a pair of H&M ones (they were £11 in the sale so I really couldn't go wrong) and I absolutely love them, really great fit and soft denim.

Off the shoulder tops are all over Bloglovin and Instagram at the moment. I was really spoilt for choice with H&M's huge selection, but I really love this one with a pom pom trim. I think that this would not only work in the day, but could also be dressed up for the evening too. If black or pom poms are not your thing then check out some of the others they have to offer. I was quite tempted by a blue stripe one (not unsurprisingly)!
Off the Shoulder Top £14.99

If you want something a little more dressy for the evening, then I would really recommend this beautiful lace top. I saw this on amothersedit - another fabulous Instagram account that I have recently started following. This looks a whole lot more expensive than it is, and as well as perfect for evening wear on holiday can be dressed down for colder days at home. Just see how V from amothersedit  has styled it with distressed denim and cosy knits.

Grey Lace Top £29.99

Moving onto dresses, so many to choose from, but again I have been swayed by the pom poms! I think this dress is so versatile and would be great for both day and evening wear.

Whilst I would probably wear this dress during the day, I think it could easily be dressed up to take you straight from the beach to the bar. It looks like it is also made of that crinkle fabric that is crease resistant, so perfect for packing in a suitcase.
Crinkled Dress £24.99

I just love this scarf, most of my scarfs are some form of leopard print, so this would really add something to my wardrobe and it is the perfect colour to go with pretty much anything. I also love the pop of colour in the tassels. This is the item that prompted me to place my third H&M online order in a week.

Moving onto beachwear, this black one piece is a good classic with a little bit of a twist. I think the back detail really makes this piece stand out.

As well as a one piece, I do like a bikini for a bit of variety. H&M have several to choose from but this is my pick of the bunch. This burgundy tie die pattern with white and peachy coral accents is just a little bit different.

Bikini Top £14.99                       Bikini Bottoms £7.99

Given my English rose complexion, I like to take extra precautions with my skin, so I always take a sun hat with me. At only £10, if it gets damaged or you leave it on the beach it's not going to be too much of a problem.

I have had some not so great H&M footwear in the past, although purse friendly the quality hasn't always been great.  But since the introduction of their Premium Quality range I have found loads of shoes that I love. Here are a few of my current favourites, but do have a look yourself as there are so many to choose from. I think these espadrilles would be great for the beach and these wedges would easily take you from day to night - I just can't decide if I want the tan or the black?

Premium Quality Wedges £49.99 in tan or black

Thank you for reading.  I would love to hear your comments and about any beach buys you have made recently.

Spot the Difference

Spot the Difference - the beach cover up

This deceptively cold weather and also recently booking a holiday has got me thinking about beachwear, and I've found two very gorgeous beach cover ups to suit a range of budgets.

Firstly the more expensive option from Isabel Marant at Net-a-Porter.  This is a really beautiful embroidered dress with tassled ties.  This would fit in nicely with my usual holiday colour scheme of neutrals (black, white, grey) and blues, but I am just not sure I can justify the cost, even for such a beautiful piece.

Isabel Marant Mini Dress £220

For those on a more limited budget, this one from H&M is very similar (aside from the obvious colour difference). I personally don't like to spend too much on my beachwear or "summer wardrobe" as I find that there are fewer opportunities to wear these items. This is partially due to the climate here in the UK, which doesn't really lend itself to wearing these things (despite growing up on the south west coast, I cannot recall when I last sunbathed on a UK beach) and the fact that I only manage to squeeze in a few beach holidays each year. I'm not complaining, I know I have more holidays than most, but I do work hard for these and really appreciate the holiday time that we do have.

I have already ordered the H&M one, and because I technically saved so much money, I may have also ordered these - oops.

Thank you for reading and always I would love to hear your comments and other holiday wardrobe finds.

Pieces of Eight

Pieces of Eight

I already have several pairs of gold and silver shoes in my wardrobe (including my most loved silver wedding Choos), most of which are more suited to the spring or summer and so have been sat patiently waiting at the back of my wardrobe.  Whilst it's still too cold for me to brave anything but my boots (and so my metallic friends are going to have to wait a little longer for their next outing) I am pleased to say that when that sun does start shining they most definitely will be making an appearance and I may even add some friends to their little gang.  There are currently a load of gorgeous silver and gold footwear available that are proving to be far too tempting and may have to be purchased before it warms up.  Let's be honest I could be waiting a while, and often by the time it gets round to summer all the good stuff has been snapped up, so really I am just being proactive and prepared!

Starting off with trainers...The Silver Nike Air Max Theas have been all over Instagram, as have the Bronze Nike Cortez but neither of these are really my cup of tea, I prefer something a little more subtle, and I also love my Internationalist trainers, so these in a metallic shade would be perfect.

I also quite like the shape of the New Balance trainers, and these from JCrew also caught my eye.

As I am a little bit of a magpie, it's no surprise that these glittery delights from H&M caught my eye, and compared to the others they are such a bargain.
H&M Glittery Trainers £24.99

Moving on to shoes, I came across these glittery pumps from H&M. I have a similar pair in Navy that I picked up from Next a few seasons ago, which are really great for adding a little sparkle to an outfit when you don't have much time to get changed. These are quite a bit cheaper than my Next ones too, so quick, grab yourself a bargain.

H&M Glittery Ballet Pumps £19.99

I'm not sure how comfortable these H&M ones are (sometimes I do find the cheaper shoes tend to be a bit hard and may pinch a little, but that's not necessarily the case so do give them a try if you see them in store). If you do want to spend a little bit more, check out these from JCrew. They are a little more subtle with the glitter and so I may be able to get away with these for work.

I am not usually a fan of the loafer, but give them a pointed toe and a bit of shimmer and I have to say I am loving these from Topshop.

Topshop Pointed Loafer £39

They also have a very similar but less loafer and slightly cheaper offering, which I actually think I prefer and I am very tempted to order as these would replace my silver Witchery pumps that I picked up in New Zealand and sadly wrecked wearing them in the rain last year (stoopid English weather).

Topshop Point Ballet Shoe £18

I love a court, and these are no exception, so if you are looking for something with a bit more of a heel, then these may be just what you're after. I would wear these with some jeans and a casual top to dress the outfit up a little, or perhaps with a full midi skirt or dress for an evening out or wedding.

Topshop Courts £59

Finally a little something for the beach. I actually struggled to find metallic flat sandals that I liked (not normally an issue for he, I have several pairs), but you cannot go wrong with a classic pair of havaianas (again I have several of these, oops). I personally prefer the thinner strap, and these come in gold, rose gold and silver.

Gold Havaianas £22
